Overview of Bondoukou

Bondoukou is approximately 420Km North-East of Abidjan. It is part of the Zanzan region, a Savannah region. Bondoukou is near the border with Ghana. Just across the border is the Ghanaian town of Sampa. The city lies at the junction of the main A1 highway with roads to Sorobango to the north and Ghana to the east.

History

The town which was formerly a farming village became a southern terminus for a major trade route which linked the rich gold and the kola production region with the great trading centres of Western Sudan.
