UTZ’s field support network, standards and certification services, and traceability system enable markets to reward good practices. UTZ works together with major stakeholders – from industry, government and civil society to producers and farmers – to achieve a more sustainable sector for coffee, tea and cocoa.

UTZ is headquartered in Amsterdam and works closely with its partner networks in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The UTZ team in Côte d’Ivoire offers a program to better serve its cocoa members in line with UTZ vision and innovations. Currently, UTZ is looking for a:


Program Officer, Advocacy – based in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire

The Program Officer Advocacy (POA) will be part of the Africa regional team. S/He will contribute in the development and implementation of the Sector Partnerships program in Côte d’Ivoire. S/He contributes to maintain and develop active networks and strategic alliances on sustainability issues in the cocoa sector in Côte d‘Ivoire.

The POA works in close collaboration with the Program Officer Partnerships as well as team based in Côte d’Ivoire and the Headquarters. S/He reports functionally to the Deputy Country Representative and hierarchically to the West Africa Representative. S/He will be based in Abidjan with frequent domestic travel, plus occasional travel in the region and to Amsterdam.



  • Identification of opportunities and new partners of the Sector Partnerships Program
  • Development of policyinfluencing strategies and actions in liaison with Team in Côte d’Ivoire and Amsterdam
  • Drafts input into documents including position papers, concept notes, cover notes, agendas, speeches, proposals, presentations, in liaison with the Program Officer Partnerships
  • Contributes to the development of multi-stakeholder platforms to share the best practices and lessons learned
  • Development and dissemination of UTZ’s tools and documents to public, private sector stakeholders and CSOs.
  • Proposal reviewsand  monitoring of the implementation of partner’s projects
  • Represents UTZ at relevant events/platforms for cocoa sustainability, in coordination with the Program Officer Partnerships


Candidate requirements

  • A Master degree ideally in international relations/affairs, development studies, agronomy or communications; other relevant qualifications may be considered.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible work experience in at least one of the topics related to Climate change/environment, Child rights, Farmer group professionalization, Gender or development/international affairs.
  • Good experience working with the multilateral systems (public and private platforms) as well as with Civil Society Organizations.
  • Knowledge of cocoa sector in Côte d’Ivoire as well as the related political system and institutions.
  • Experience using advocacy techniques (e.g. lobbying, dialogue) to influence the policies and practices of private corporations and in the provision of training on Lobby&Advocacy approaches.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines while delivering quality results.
  • Strong communicator, credible ambassador with diverse stakeholders (producers, traders, government)
  • Fluent in French, able to communicate in English (written, verbal)
  • Ability and experience working independently yetin close coordination with colleagues worldwide.

What we offer?
