Local Markets

Local People in Abidjan heavily rely on local markets to cater for their everyday needs. You can find almost everything you need:  fresh food, spices, clothing, cookware, kitchenware, cleaning supplies, plasticware …etc.

  

Local markets are everywhere. You will find at least one local market in every commune of Abidjan. Their fresh products are usually quite reasonably priced. 

You can also find everything ranging from textiles, jewelry, masks, pottery, woodcarvings and musical instruments in many markets such as the ones listed below.

We have listed here the biggest markets in Abidjan: 

ADJAME MARKET: on Boulevard Abrogoua
COCODY MARKET: This is Abidjan’s foremost craft market with a wide variety of great stuff to choose from.
CAVA (centre artisanal de la ville d'Abidjan): This market looks like an african village and it is clean and conveniently situated. This is where local artisans gather, you can find textiles, wood, leather goods,etc.. actually the best souvenirs can be bought at this market.
TREICHVILLE: Treichville is probably the best place for shopping. It offers really competitive prices and endless options. You can also find an abundance of smaller stores in Treichville selling home furniture, appliances and electronics.

There are two main markets in Treichville.
 
 1. MARCHE DE BELLEVILLE IN TREICHVILLE: It is particularly known for its second-hand clothing businesses mostly run by nigerian immigrants.
 2. LE GRAND MARCHE DE TREICHVILLE: it has a lot to offer, there is little you can't find in this market ( jewlery, clothes, woodcrafts etc...)
Several low cost markets to consider visiting for groceries:
GOURO MARKET: ​located in Adjame. You can find all kinds of food products at very low prices.
Another one is located in Yopougon Siporex. This is a great market if you are looking for low cost fresh meats.
KOUMASI GENERAL MARKET: If you have the courage to wake up at 5:30 in the morning, it could be worth it. You can buy beautiful fresh fish at wholesale prices in the early morning hour.
PORT-BOUET MARKET: This market is known as the night market. You can buy all sorts of fresh food at very reasonable prices.
